Effective natural resource management can only occur if all land managers act responsibly and actively manage their land. Fire, weeds, feral animals and a myriad other NRM issues do not recognise fencelines or boundary lines on maps so the way one land manager manages land under their control directly impacts those that manage land that abuts it. To improve NRM outcomes for member Councils and the entire South West Metropolitan Region, the Regional NRM Facilitator initiated and runs the South West Group Natural Areas Management Forum. This Forum brings together organisations responsible for managing bushland, wetlands, rivers and coastlines to identify issues of common concern and address these collaboratively and cooperatively. The Forum membership now includes:
- Cities of Armadale, Canning, Cockburn, Fremantle, Kwinana, Mandurah, Melville and Rockingham, the Town of East Fremantle and the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale
- Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions
- Department of Fire and Emergency Services
- Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage
- Main Roads
- Water Corporation
- Conservation Volunteers Australia
