Areas of priority conservation action

In 2014, the South West Group commissioned an intensive, fine scale assessment of the extent, level of statutory protection, and connectivity of the regions remnant vegetation. This assessment, the first of its kind in metropolitan Perth, was undertaken through WALGA’s Local Biodiversity Program. The assessment identified Areas of Priority Conservation Action; areas of remnant vegetation that must be protected, managed and extended wherever possible in order to maintain the functionality of the regions ecological corridors for both flora and fauna movement . Member Councils prioritise management of these areas.
