The Chair of the South West Group Board, Mayor Russell Aubrey, today announced the appointment of Tom Griffiths as the new Director of the South West Group after nationwide advertising of the position.

“The South West Corridor is expected to see significant economic development and infrastructure investment over the next twenty years but this brings with it the challenge to both promote private sector investment as well as maintain regional amenity in the face of this strong growth. Tom’s extensive experience in economic development and marketing at the Cities of Fremantle and Perth, position him well to play a key role in the future of our region” he said.

Mayor Aubrey further stated that “Tom has a Masters in Sustainable Urban and Regional Development from our local Murdoch University and a Degree in Business Management and Marketing from Curtin University which together with his work experience with both government and private sectors have him well placed to deal with the broad areas of infrastructure, transport, urban development, tourism, economic development, natural resource management and sustainability”.

Mr Griffiths will commence in the South West Group role on June 5, after five years as Manager Economic Development and Marketing with the City of Fremantle.

Mayor Aubrey thanked the departing Director, Mick McCarthy, for his significant contribution to the South West Group since his appointment in August 2011.
